Natural Sciences in the Ottoman Period: Scholars, Works, Problems
In the tenth year of the symposium series “Sciences in the Ottoman Empire” organized by ISAR, the accumulation of the Ottoman scientific tradition in the field of natural sciences will be examined. In the tradition of Islamic thought, nature has been at the center of human curiosity to know and understand, and for this reason, a wide range of research has been conducted from the structure of objects to the principles of motion, from elements to living things. In this context, it will be discussed how Ottoman scholars inherited the Islamic tradition of natural sciences, and through which works and methods they made their original contributions. The symposium aims both to contribute to the existing literature in this field and to open new horizons for in-depth research.
