Samples from the Musical Heritage of Özbekler Tekkesi
Özbekler Tekkesi was one of the most important meeting places in Üsküdar for literary figures, musicians and Sufis. In the last century, Özbekler Tekkesi held regular meetings on certain days of the month, where Uzbek pilaf was eaten, followed by musical performances and conversations. These music and chat assemblies recorded on the reel-to-reel tape recorder of Necmeddin Özbekkangay, the Sheikh of the Özbekler Tekkesi, were recorded and deciphered digitally by Prof. Süleyman Erguner years later. In the twelfth seminar of the “Sociocultural, Historical and Religious Dimensions of Sultantepe Özbekler Tekkesi Project”, examples of the aforementioned recordings were given and the performances were conveyed to the participants together with their stories.
