We will be hosting Prof. Hacı Mehmet Günay from Sakarya University in the seventh session of the ‘Copyright Talks’ series organized as part of the Copyright in the Islamic Legal Tradition Workshop.

Prof. Günay, who graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 1988, completed his master’s degree at the same university in 1991 with his thesis titled ‘Cemâluddîn el-Kâsimî and His Views in Fiqh’ in the field of Islamic law. He started his academic career as a research assistant at Sakarya University Faculty of Theology in 1993 and after completing his PhD at Marmara University in 1997 with a thesis titled ‘Public Properties in Islamic Law’, he continued his academic career as a faculty member at Sakarya University. Prof. Günay, who has also held various administrative positions, has focused his academic work on areas of Islamic law such as waqf (endowment) law, bioethics, Islamic economy, and interest-free financial systems.
