The Milli Tribe and the Life Story of Milli İbrahim Pasha
In the first session of the Working Paper Seminars organized by ISAR Research Center in Fall 2023 semester, Tutku Akın will discuss her text titled “The Milli Tribe and the Life Story of Milli İbrahim Pasha” with Assoc. Prof. Ebubekir Ceylan. Focusing on the socioeconomic practices and power relations in the Milli Tribe, the text aims to provide new reading opportunities for the Abdülhamid II period.
Speaker Tutku Akın graduated from Boğaziçi University, Department of History in 2018. She completed her master’s degree at same university’s Atatürk Institute in 2020 with her thesis titled “The Ottoman Tribal School: Surveillance and the Students’ Lives in the School” in 2020. She is currently continuing her doctoral studies at the same institute.
Discussant Assoc. Prof. Ebubekir Ceylan received his BA in History from Boğaziçi University and his MA in International Relations from the University of Manchester. Then, he received his PhD in History from Boğaziçi University and is currently a faculty member at Istanbul Technical University. He is also the author of book titled The Ottoman Origins of Modern Iraq: Political Reform, Modernization and Development in the Nineteenth-Century Middle East.
