The Omnipresent Sultan: Spying and Surveillance in the Late Ottoman Empire
In the 46th session of the Ihtisas Talks series organized by ISAR Research Center, we will host Fırat Kimya. Kimya will present his research on the role of the perception of surveillance created by the policies of informing in the late 19th century Ottoman Empire during the reign of Abdülhamid II in regime stability.
Fırat Kimya graduated from Boğaziçi University in 2014 with a double major in Political Science and Psychology. He received his master’s degree in International Relations from Koç University in 2017 and his PhD in Political Science from the University of Virginia in 2023. Currently a visiting assistant professor at Swarthmore College, Kimya’s research interests include political parties and democratization.
