Employee Mobility and the Transfer of Customer Knowledge

In the 53rd session of the Specialized Talks series organized by the ISAR Research Center, we will be hosting Nurullah Güleç.

The question, "Do employees carry not only their skills but also customer knowledge and relationships when they move between companies?" will be at the core of Güleç’s presentation. The session will share findings obtained by merging matched employer-employee data with inter-firm network records. These findings reveal that hiring firms are 15% more likely to establish connections with customers familiar to the new employee compared to similar customers, and that these employees receive a wage premium.

Güleç’s presentation will discuss how these results provide an empirical basis for the legal debate surrounding non-compete agreements while also addressing practical implications for recruitment, contract design, and competition policy.
