The Theologians' Renowned Argument from Temporal Origin (Huduth): An Analysis in the Context of Fakhr al-Din al-Razi
In the presentation of Yasin Öztorun’s Master’s thesis, the philosophical transformation within the thought of Fakhr al-Din al-Razi of the "renowned argument from temporal origin" (al-dalil al-mashhur), which acquired a systematic structure with Abu al-Hudhayl al-Allaf, will be examined. The presentation will first detail the logical construction of the argument based on its four premises and Razi’s criticisms of this classical framework, focusing on the argument’s place and evolution within the Razian corpus.
Subsequently, the issues of "priority and posteriority" (taqaddum-ta’akhkhur) and the "eternity of possibility," where the debates on huduth transcend mere critical analysis of the argument and evolve into an ontological inquiry, will be discussed in light of Razi’s proposed solutions.
