The Viziership in Ottoman Political Thought Workshop aims to examine the historical journey of the institution of viziership, which played a central role in Ottoman state administration, together with its Ottoman-Islamic political thought, administrative practices and legal background. The workshop will examine a large body of political literature from the classical period to the 18th century that touches upon various disciplines such as fiqh, Sufism and ethics. Through these works, how the idea of vizierate was positioned in the Ottoman administrative understanding and the changes it experienced in the historical process will be discussed. The program, which consists of three sessions, aims to focus on the chronological order of the treatises on the institution of vizierate and to examine the transformation of the vizierate from the Ottoman classical period to the late Ottoman period.
