Summary
In the lectures, biological gender will be discussed through the example of disorders of sex development (hermaphroditism / intersexuality). The aim is to reveal the meaning that the disciplines of medicine, ethics and Islamic law attribute to biological sex. In this context, topics such as how disorders of sex development are defined in contemporary medicine and Islamic law, disorders of sex development in contemporary ethics, gender affirmation surgery, the doctrine of informed consent, human dignity and privacy will be discussed. Finally, the norms developed by classical Islamic law to solve the problem of which sexual role individuals with unassigned sex should adopt will be discussed. In addition, a medical, ethical and legal analysis of the fatwas issued by contemporary Arab fatwa institutions on the subject will be conducted in order to determine how the phenomenon of disorders of sex development is handled in contemporary Islamic law.
