Classical Islamic Economics Works Reading Group: Kharaj

Summary

The Classical Islamic Economics Works Reading Group is entering its fifth term. Within the scope of this reading group, it is planned to conduct a comparative study of various works authored by renowned jurists (fuqahāʼ), hadith scholars (muhaddithūn), and historians (muwarrikhūn) within the Islamic scholarly tradition during the classical and pre-modern periods. These works cover areas such as harāj (taxation), amwāl (wealth), kasb (earning), hisba (market regulation), and ethics. The readings are intended to be carried out comparatively, focusing on selected texts within a specific genre during each term. The course is conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faruk Bal, a faculty member in the Department of Economics at Istanbul Medeniyet University.
