Summary
This reading group will examine the historical development of copyright law in the West and its philosophical foundations. The study will begin with an exploration of how the concept of copyright has evolved within the legal traditions of Continental Europe and Anglo-Saxon systems. Over the course of an academic year, theories proposed at various points in history regarding copyright law will be discussed during monthly meetings.In this context, the group will analyze the relationship between copyright and key concepts such as utilitarianism, labor theory, personality theory, human rights, public interest, and monopoly rights.Following the completion of these monthly discussions, a second reading group is planned as a continuation. This subsequent group will focus on the historical trajectory of copyright law within the Islamic legal tradition and Turkish legal history.
