Ottoman Political Thought

Summary

The main aim of this workshop is to examine and analyze political thought texts written in the Ottoman period within the framework of certain themes. First, political thought texts will be read and discussed with a focus on the vizierate. Furthermore, the institutional development of the vizierate in modern literature will be traced, the reflections and effects of the historical picture highlighted by these narratives on political thought will be analyzed. Basically, the texts will be analyzed within the framework of questions such as how the powers and duties of the office of vizier are reflected in the texts, how the personal experiences of the viziers are positioned according to the image of the ideal vizier, how the qualifications of the viziers and the structure of the vizierate institution are constructed in the texts. The ultimate goal of the workshop is to organize a workshop at the end of one year, to which the participants will contribute, and to create a compilation book based on it.
