Fatwa Working Group

The Fatwa Working Group is an academic community that examines fatwa collections (fatwa majmuas) from the Ottoman period and aims to make this rich literature available to contemporary researchers. The group's work encompasses both understanding the formation and preparation processes of fatwas and managing meticulous textual publication processes, such as the transcription, collation, and proofreading of these scattered and largely handwritten fatwa collections.

The distinguishing aspect of the group is its integration of this classical literature with modern technological capabilities. Through the digitization of fatwa collections and the creation of artificial intelligence-supported search databases, these voluminous texts are made easily searchable and accessible. In this way, the working group aims to eliminate the practical difficulties encountered by researchers and relevant institutions in accessing fatwa literature and to offer functional solutions to concrete needs in the field.
