The Noble Companions in Scholarship, Literature, and Art

The “Companions of the Prophet in Scholarship, Literature, and Art Workshop,” organized under the auspices of the ISAR Research Center, is a seminar series designed to examine the position of the Companions within the history of Islamic thought and culture through an interdisciplinary lens. This program will explore various forms of representation of the Companions within a broad framework, ranging from classical biographical literature to contemporary literary and artistic productions.

The Companions assumed a central role in the formation of the Islamic scholarly tradition, serving as an indispensable bridge in the transmission of religious knowledge. In this regard, their scholarly authority and religious-historical identities will be addressed within the context of the fundamental Islamic sciences. Furthermore, the influence of the Companions will be traced through fields such as poetry, music, and the visual arts, evaluating their enduring reflections in cultural memory.

The workshop aims to first establish a solid theoretical foundation and subsequently analyze the manifestations of this foundation in the realms of literature and art. Consequently, participants will have the opportunity to develop a holistic understanding of the Companions’ status in both scholarly and aesthetic contexts. Targeting participants at the Master’s and doctoral levels, this program seeks to enhance advanced text-centered reading and academic discussion skills.
