Medical, Religious and Ethical Dimensions of Gender Transformation
Gender continues to be of central importance in various aspects in both popular culture and academia. Discussions on gender find many grounds, from the biological structure of human nature to its sociality, from the relationship between body and mind to the legal and philosophical foundations of freedom and will. These debates are not limited to the world of thought, but are also made a part of political/ideological attitudes and can be used as a means of influencing the masses.
ISAR Medicine and Ethics Working Group (ISAR TAÇ) plans to discuss gender transformation in this workshop, which is a continuation of the workshop titled “Gender from Medical, Social, Ethical and Religious Perspectives” organized in May 2022. Within the scope of the workshop, the phenomenology of gender identity, psychiatric approach to gender transition, detransition will be discussed and the reflections of gender in Islamic and modern philosophy will be evaluated. Based on these, one of the most fundamental questions will be how religious rulings will apply at different stages of gender transition. In addition, the medical, ethical and legal aspects of gender dysphoria in adolescents, a sensitive group that continues to be debated in our country and around the world, will be discussed in a separate session.
