The book aims to present the ethics in the Ottoman period with its main sources, tendencies, phases and main representatives. For this reason, the book presents proposals on how to periodize Ottoman moral thought, identifies the characteristics of the literature based on a survey of all identified ethical works, presents the views of prominent figures such as Taşköprizâde and Kınalızâde, analyzes the place of representative works by the same names, such as Sharḥ al-ahlāq al-‘Adudiyya and Ahl al-‘Alā’ī, in the history of Islamic moral thought, presents preliminary findings on the contributions of different fields such as economics, politics and fiqh to moral thought, and finally the consequences of the experience of the encounter with the West in the field of ethics are traced.
